Work Related Skills:
I’ve been in the design and print industry since 2003 and I have acquired a wide range of skills from all aspects of print. From lithographic to digital, as well as clothing and banner printing using full colour printer/plotters and single colour vinyl cutters. I have an eye for detail, I’ve enjoyed working in a fast paced environment where deadlines were tight. I have a good understanding of colour theory and composition. I understand good communication is the key in the design industry, you can’t create what the client wants if you don’t ask the right questions. I am equally as happy to work on my own using my own inititive as I am part of a team.
I hold a number of clients who I work regulary with, typical work being product branding, email marketing, stationary and flyers, through to t-shirt designs and posters.
Pre Press Design/Web:
Quark Xpress, Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Freehand, Coreldraw, Versaworks and Cut-studio.
Other programs that I use are Google Sketch Up, Impact Plus, 3D Plus, Squirlz Morph, Whorld, Adobe Premiere Pro, Movie Maker, Arkchaos, the Resolume series an FL Studio for music production.
Pre Press Printing:
Artwork printing for poly plates as well as using negatives for the production of metal plates using a downframe.
Printing:
Heidelberg Quickmaster 46, Konica Minolta Digital Press, Biz Hub Digital Press, Risograph, Hp Designjet 120, Epson Stylus Pro 9800, Roland VersaCamm and Texjet DTG.
Finishing:
Guillotine operation, various collators/booklet makers, Duplo folders, padding press, perfing, scoring and paper drilling.

January 2010 – Present: Pigg By Design. Freelance Digital Artist.
Graphic and Web Designer. As well as designing for print an web, I work with branded clothing and canvas prints. I have learned a lot in my first year and am enjoying the freedom and am happy with the ridiculous hours that come with being your own boss. I love a challenge.
I also hold the title of Visual & Creative Lead for the 4 People Not Profit management committee (Saltburn based social change awareness group). This involves producing flyers, posters and other various marketing and merchandising products along with the website admin and vj’ing.

April 2003 – December 2009: Native Print Ltd, 113 Chillingham Road, Newcastle.
Positions included: Apprentice Printer/Designer, Shop Manager, Unit Manager, and Creative Director.
My duties involved all aspects of the printing process from design conception, pre-press, lithographic printing (Heidelberg Quick Master 46), digital print, through to a wide range of finishing techniques. Working here I gained invaluable knowledge of the printing industry, learning the different techniques and understanding the need for different design styles for different forms of print.

Cellarman: My duties involved the re stocking of bars, taking in off deliveries and general housekeeping of stock cellars.

Timber Saw Operative: As well as operating the saw for customers duties included general customer service, product ordering, merchandising and sign writing.
North Shields Supercentre/Gateshead Supercentre
Positions included: Hardware Dept Customer Service, Garden Dept Customer Service, Twilight Staff.
As well as general customer service, product ordering, merchandising I was involved with various shop re-fits as well as the eventual dismantling of the North Shields Store (to make way for a warehouse).

Barman: Duties included serving of beverages and food, general cleaning and cellar duties and in the case of Flares,
dressing like a 70’s pimp and dancing on the bar.

About Me:
I’m a creative person first and foremost, I love taking a blank anything, computer screen, canvas etc and making something happen. Although I don’t often give myself much time to, I still love drawing and painting. I spend quite a lot of time in front of my computer animating these days as I VJ for a couple of promoters, Crazyliners (based in Leeds) and I’m the resident VJ with the Saltburn based 4 People Not Profit social awareness group. I’ve VJ’d events from small bar gatherings to AV tents at festivals and warehouse raves. I’m fascinated by the connection of visuals and music, I’ve studied this from fine art to animated graphics, visualising sound has been a big part of my life for the past ten years, and has lead to many avenues and added to the programs that I use with 3d modelling and VJ packages all helping me throughout my career as a designer.
My other passions include football (Newcastle Utd freak, and I play centre half for Whitley Bay Seahorse (Sunday League), I DJ (breakbeat/electro mainly) as well as produce my own tracks. I co-run a promotions company called Alpha State for a few years which was based around the connection between music and visuals. I also play the guitar, love my Wii and cats (I have 6).
Oh, and although I believe it’ll be responsible for the downfall of humanity I’m an horrendous telly addict, though I hate all soaps with a great passion.

I recently became a father for the first time, a little boy called Dylan is now my favourite hobby. He’s proper awesome, I feel like I have been let in on some big cosmic secret. Good times.
